Generally speaking, we differentiate between primary and secondary measures for explosion protection. Measures in the first category are intended to prevent an explosion, while the second category focuses on efforts to limit the damage caused by an explosion once it occurs. Our approach always includes building techniques such as explosion-proof and blast-proof construction, which increase the margin of safety in our plants. Other measures also maximize operational safety. Included are systems to provide pressure relief in the event of an explosion, to suppress an explosion in its earliest stages and to de-couple other areas of a plant from an explosion that has already begun.
